Chateau De Barive; a charming boutique hotel situated only 45 minutes away from Reims and around an hour and a half from Paris and Lille. Last summer, my boyfriend and I went on a road trip around Champagne to celebrate his birthday. Chateau De Barive was the second place we stayed at throughout our journey after Cottages Antoinette. We chose to stay at Chateau De Barive as the first place we stayed at was a luxury eco villa and we wanted to have a nice mix of different accommodations throughout our trip. Due to Chateau De Barive’s peaceful environment, I would say this place resembles more a luxurious castle than a residence or a hotel.
A delicious welcome drink that we gladly enjoyed at the comfort of the outdoor lounge area.
Chateau De Barive has 22 stunning rooms and suites, with the perfect balance of serenity, privacy and great service. We only stayed here for one night but I really wish we stayed for longer as the suite was incredible! If you visit in the summer, make sure to take a dip in the Chateau’s glorious indoor swimming pool (which is heated I might add!) situated in their magnificent garden. Even if you don’t quite enjoy swimming, you can still lounge around on the deckchairs in the garden. There is also a sauna, fitness room, tennis court and board games area. The hotel is given a special atmosphere with its outside terraces which overlook the French-style garden and also libraries, which is not something typically seen in many hotels. We surely took advantage of the huge green outdoor spaces.
One of the amazing things about Chateau De Barive is that it serves a Continental Breakfast of dreams, all included in the rate. From freshly baked croissants to fresh fruit to different types of bread, you can’t go wrong with trying out their breakfast. And they even include champagne with breakfast, free of charge of course. The food was all simply mouthwatering and delicious. I must admit, it started our day off on a very pleasant note. There’s a chubby cat living at the hotel as well, and he actually joined us for breakfast and slept on my lap. I wish he told us his real name but we called him Garfield.
After having such a wonderful breakfast and champagne, we went for a long walk in the lovely outdoor area located around the hotel.
Within the chateau, there is also an elegant restaurant called Les Epicuriens which serves gastronomic cuisine developed by the brilliant Chef Franck Dumoulin. They offer aperitif both in the lounges and also on the terrace, whilst food is served in the majestic dining room. One can choose dishes from their carefully selected menu and also wines available from their cellar.
Something which I just have to mention is the design and decor of the building. It is decorated with such taste, which makes it really elegant. It is something which surely caught my eye and it is one of the main things which I will clearly remember from this place.
The service was amazing and very helpful, the food was spectacular and the views, simply breathtaking! My boyfriend and I surely enjoyed spending some time at Chateau De Barive and would recommend to anyone to visit for a relaxing weekend away from the busy of city life!
